Page Management

Organize and manage your document pages efficiently with the PDF Editor's powerful page management tools.

Understanding Pages

Each PDF document consists of one or more pages. In the PDF Editor:

  • Thumbnail Rail — The left panel shows thumbnails of all pages
  • Main Canvas — The center area displays the currently selected page for editing
  • Page Navigation — Click any thumbnail to view and edit that page

Selecting a Page

  1. Look at the thumbnail rail on the left
  2. Click any thumbnail to navigate to that page
  3. The main canvas updates to show the selected page
  4. The thumbnail is highlighted to indicate it's active

Scrolling Through Pages

  • Scroll Down in the thumbnail rail to see more pages
  • Scroll Wheel on the main canvas to move through pages
  • Page Up/Down Keys to jump between pages

Adding Pages

Creating a New Blank Page

  1. Right-click in the thumbnail rail (below the last page, or between any pages)
  2. Select "Add Page" from the menu
  3. A new blank page appears
  4. Click the new page thumbnail to start editing

Alternative method:

  1. Click the "+" button at the bottom of the thumbnail rail
  2. A new page is added at the end of the document

Choosing Page Size

When creating a new page, you can set:

  • Letter (8.5" × 11") — Standard US page size
  • A4 (8.27" × 11.69") — Standard international page size

The editor uses your default page size when adding new pages. You can change this in document settings.

Adding Pages Between Existing Pages

  1. Right-click a thumbnail in the rail
  2. Select "Insert Page After" to add a page below it
  3. The new page appears in that position

Removing Pages

Deleting a Page

  1. Right-click the thumbnail of the page you want to delete
  2. Select "Delete Page" from the menu
  3. A confirmation dialog appears
  4. Click "Confirm" to permanently remove the page

Warning — Deletion cannot be undone except by using Undo (Ctrl+Z) immediately.

Can't Delete

You cannot delete all pages from a document — at least one page must remain.

Reordering Pages

Using Drag and Drop

  1. Click and hold a page thumbnail in the rail
  2. Drag it to a new position
  3. Hover over the desired position — the other pages shift to make room
  4. Release the mouse to drop the page in its new location
  5. All pages adjust their order immediately

The drag-and-drop operation is fully undoable — press Ctrl+Z to revert.

Reordering Multiple Pages

While the editor doesn't support selecting multiple pages at once, you can:

  1. Drag one page at a time in the desired order
  2. Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) if you make a mistake
  3. For complex rearrangements, take your time — there's no performance penalty

Example Workflow

To rearrange pages 1, 2, 3, 4 into order 1, 3, 2, 4:

  1. Drag page 3 between pages 1 and 2
  2. Result: 1, 3, 2, 4 ✓ Done

Duplicating Pages

Creating a Copy of a Page

  1. Right-click the thumbnail of the page you want to duplicate
  2. Select "Duplicate Page" from the menu
  3. A copy of the page appears immediately after the original
  4. All content and formatting is preserved

This is useful for:

  • Creating multiple versions of a template
  • Repeating a design across pages
  • Using a previous page as a starting point

Merging Documents

When you open a PDF file, all its pages are imported into the editor. You can then:

  1. Create or open additional PDFs in new editor windows
  2. Copy pages between documents by:
    • Duplicating pages in one document
    • Exporting sections as new PDFs
    • Using the version history to work with different PDF versions

Page Properties

Viewing Page Information

Each page has:

PropertyDetails
Page NumberPosition in the document (1, 2, 3...)
SizeDimensions in points (612 × 792 for Letter)
SourceOriginal PDF page or new blank page

Right-click a page thumbnail to see all its options.

Extracting and Exporting Pages

Exporting Specific Pages

  1. Use reordering to arrange pages in the desired export order
  2. Delete any pages you don't want to include
  3. Click Download PDF to export your selection
  4. Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) if you want to restore deleted pages after exporting

This workflow lets you extract specific chapters or sections from a document.

Creating a Sub-Document

  1. Navigate to the pages you want to keep
  2. Delete all other pages (or remove them one by one)
  3. Click Download PDF to save as a new document
  4. Undo to restore the original document

Page-Level Editing

While the main editing happens on the canvas, understand that:

  • Each page is independent — Elements on one page don't affect others
  • Elements don't span pages — Text, images, and shapes exist on a single page
  • Page size is fixed — All pages in a document typically have the same dimensions (though this can vary in imported PDFs)

Numbering Pages

While the editor doesn't provide automatic page numbering, you can:

  1. Add text elements saying "Page 1", "Page 2", etc.
  2. Position them in a consistent location (e.g., bottom-right)
  3. Use the same font and size for consistency

For complex documents, consider adding page numbers before final export.

Best Practices

Organizing Documents

  • Logical Order — Arrange pages in a way that makes sense for your content
  • Similar Sizes — Try to keep all pages the same size for consistency
  • Consistent Styling — Use similar formatting across all pages

Working with Large Documents

  • Scroll Efficiently — Use the scroll wheel to navigate quickly
  • Zoom In — Use zoom to focus on details on individual pages
  • Preview Before Export — Review each page before downloading the final PDF

Templates

  • Create Templates — Build a well-designed first page and duplicate it
  • Reuse Structure — Start new documents from previously created templates
  • Save Variations — Use version history to preserve different template versions

Undo and Redo

All page operations are fully undoable:

  • Undo — Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) reverses the last action
  • Redo — Ctrl+Y (or Cmd+Y on Mac) restores an undone action
  • Full History — The editor maintains up to 200 undo steps

This means you can freely experiment with page reordering knowing you can always revert.

Troubleshooting

Can't drag pages to reorder

  • Why — Pages may be locked or disabled
  • Solution — Ensure no text editing is active; click elsewhere first to deselect elements

Deleted page won't restore

  • Why — Too many undo steps have occurred, or browser was closed
  • Solution — Use History panel to restore from an earlier version of the document

Page order changed unexpectedly

  • Why — Accidental drag operation
  • Solution — Press Ctrl+Z to undo and restore the previous page order

Can't add more pages

  • Why — There shouldn't be a limit, but browser memory might be constrained
  • Solution — Try closing other browser tabs, or break the document into smaller files
